Subject: Please push harder to resolve conflicts affecting children

Dear _________________,

When hearing about refugees, the images plastered on the television come to mind. We watch as bodies are washed upon European shores, as they lie uncomfortably in the back of trucks, and as they are passed over barbed wire fences by parents who desperately wish for their safety.

As a leader of our great nation – as an American yourself – I know you share my horror over these images, as well as my sympathies for the families they document.  Our nation must respond.  We must use whatever influence and power we have to insist that European leaders support and protect the thousands of desperate, displaced children (and their families) that are currently crossing European borders.  I urge you to offer the humanitarian support needed to ensure that our European allies who lack sufficient resources to cope with these newly arriving migrants are better able to respond. Working with organizations such as UNICEF, we can together ensure that the basic needs of these children (shelter, food, water, education, health care, emotional support) are met, and that families are enabled to stay together.

This migrant crisis is the direct result of the terrible conflicts that drive families out of their home countries. The world needs the United States to continue to push harder to resolve the conflicts behind these massive displacements in the region. An entire generation depends upon it.

Sincerely,

< Your Name >
