Meet Siba and Ruba. Siba is 11 and wants to teach Arabic when she grows up. Her younger sister, Ruba, is 9 years old. Ruba wants to build a school in her neighborhood and be its head teacher or maybe even a pediatrician to treat sick children… she is still deciding ;) They are similar to all children in that they have big dreams and love to play and laugh. They are different in that they have had to completely flee their hometown of Shadadi, Syria because of violence. They could not play outside because the risk of getting hit by stray bullets. They were not able to attend school for three years.

Thankfully, UNICEF in partnership with the European Union has been renovating schools in Hasakah, Syria. They have distributed school bags and supplies to more than 100,000 children in the area. They have created a special curriculum to give children affected by the violent crisis in Syria an opportunity to catch up with children their age.

I can’t imagine the courage and strength it takes to be Siba and Ruba, or the 2 to 3 million other children out of school. I cannot comprehend the pain and suffering felt by over 11 million people forced to leave their homes from the Syrian Civil War.

The crisis is bigger than me, it is bigger than you, but we can come together to help provide the basic needs, such as water, food, and shelter, to our fellow beings. We can help ensure that children like Siba and Ruba are given the opportunity to learn and live to their full potential. Although, it is not much, I am pledging to give up going out to eat for one month and donating the money I would normally use to support UNICEF and their efforts to give life back to the children of Syria. Please join me. Anything will help #PledgeForEveryChild
